The long and short of it is these are all awesome venues and I encourage you to pop along and find out for yourself.
Honourable Mention – Hallertau Brewpub
1171 Coatesville Riverhead Hwy, Riverhead, Auckland
These guys brews some swell beers but I haven’t been here in so long so I couldn’t find a spot to chuck it in. I’ve heard the food menu is awesome and I certainly know the venue is amazing. I’ve met the owner once or twice and he seems like a top dude. Go check it out.
Honourable Mention – Lumsden Freehouse
448 Khyber Pass Road, Newmarket
This place used to be one of my very favourite pubs. However I went there for my birthday as they were pouring Lupilingus; one of my very favourite brews at the time. Long story short; after ordering a Lupilingus I ended up with two Epic Bacon IPAs and eventually a Hop Zombie but no Lupilingus due to a tap mix up. This made me a little grouchy. As well as the occasionally inconsistent service I reckon the foods a bit average and overpriced which kind of sucks because this is an amazing venue. Either way this place’s worth checking out for their decent tap selection, quirky design and awesome outdoor seating.
Note – Let it be known that in my opinion 1,2 and 3 on this list have very little between them. There has been times when Brothers or 16 Tun has been my favourite bar instead of Vultures and each has their own special charm. 16 Tun consistently has the best tap list in Auckland, great food and some of the best staff. Brothers has an excellent bottle selection, off license sales, micro-brewery and some really onto it bar staff as well. But at this point in time Vultures is my favourite place to drink so suck it.
Note – I haven’t been to every craft bar in Auckland (I’m so ashamed) and haven’t been to others in yonks; so sorry Deep Creek, Brew On Quay, Corner Bar and all those others I’m missing. I’ll holla at ya’ll next time
